About Healthy New Albany
Locally born and bred, Healthy New Albany is a non-profit organization that was designed to promote and embrace healthy living. They offer a variety of health-based community programs and events, a farmers market, food pantry and community garden. All of these things are funded by their generous donors and their races.
Healthy New Albany is a grassroots movement with an interesting start. In 2010, a group of New Albany residents gathered for the purpose of creating and promoting a culture of health that would impact the lives of those who live and work in the community. This movement evolved over the years and led to the creation of Healthy New Albany, a non-profit organization that has become a respected and innovative model for health initiatives to not only residents of New Albany but also throughout Ohio and beyond.
What began as the New Albany Walking Classic, North America’s largest competitive and noncompetitive walking event evolved into a plethora of wellness programs for individuals and families as well as those in the learning and business communities. Whether addressing chronic health concerns such as cancer or heart disease, behavioral health matters, Integrative Wellness initiatives or programs for youth and community elders, the Healthy New Albany impact is significant as well as continually evolving.
In 2014, the Philip Heit Center for Healthy New Albany, a comprehensive wellness center was launched. Constructed on land donated by the New Albany Company and funded and owned by the City of New Albany, the Center is a model of collaborative initiatives among its three partners housed within its walls, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Healthy New Albany. This partnership’s efforts have resulted in a model of wellness that is attracting significant attention for its innovative approach to population health.
